The new year keeps on rolling. I'm prepping to teach a film studies class at a local university and am excited to share my love of film. It should be fun.
I'm also in the final stages of getting the Sundance Documentary Fund grant application for ". . .but can she play?" completed before Feb. 9. I'm closing in on getting an updated budget, demo reel and pitch done. Whew!
You may recall "...but can she play?" explores the dearth of women horn players in the jazz scene, which is really a boys club. We certainly appreciate any financial and in-kind support you can provide since we're raising funds to shoot in New York City and Boston in 2012.
The documentary features jazz saxophone phenom Hailey Niswanger. Here's a brief clip of a recent performance in Portland.
I also arranged for director Janice Littlejohn to appear on L.A. based "State of the Arts" radio show to discuss the documentary. It turned out to be a rollicking time with hosts Paul Stroili and Michael Sterling in addition to the show's other guest, comedienne Suzanne Whang.
Check out the show here. It's a fun listen and though I was in the green room, the show discussed whether my name is real or not. It's my real name and my stage name!
I'm doing great with the freelancing, but have decided I want more regular employment and to be in an office with some water cooler gossip rather than Facebooking to find out what's going on.
If you know anybody looking to hire, please send them my way.
In other news, I've started a new feature script and am developing a web series for a producer. I've got my fingers crossed the funding comes through.
Drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you.
